Tayntons host a Charity Quiz Night
September 26, 2019
On Friday 13th September, we hosted our first ‘Charity Quiz Night’ in aid of Maggie’s Cheltenham.
We started things off by testing the team’s knowledge with 2 picture rounds, Flags & Road Signs, and a round of Film & TV.
Teams were reminded they had ‘Joker’ cards to play for double points for whichever round they decided to play their Joker on. Although nobody played their joker on the ‘Tayntons/Maggie’s/Gloucester’ round, we hope everyone will remember facts like; Tayntons turning 160 in 2017, our merge with Rowbis Solicitors in 2015 and that our Curry Club has been running since 2011!
The real competitiveness between teams shone through when we introduced our ‘Creative Round’, where teams were asked to create something which resembled ‘Gloucester’ out of playdough. There were numerous contenders for the prize, ‘Quayside Quizasters’ made an impressive ‘Tailor of Gloucester’, ‘Famaditi’ and ‘All Revved Up and Nowhere to go’ both put forward their creations of ‘Gloucester Cathedral’. However, there could only be one winner which was Ash & Co ‘We only came for the Burgers’ with their spectacular playdough version of ‘Gloucester Old Spot’!!
It was then time for the teams to brush up on their General Knowledge and an interesting round of ‘What’s in a Year’, where teams were given 4 different statements and had to guess one year that all the statements related to. Next up we had an influx of Jokers for the Sport and Music round along with a few renditions of ‘Waterfalls’ by TLC and ‘Push It’ by Salt N’ Peppa.
So, it was all to play for in the finale with our ‘Wipe-out’ round! If teams answered all the questions correctly, they gained an extra 5 points if they got one question wrong they would forfeit the points scored in that round and end up with 0!
The results were collected in and we revealed that the winners of the quiz were Hazlewoods and their team ‘Beer today, gone tomorrow’ who had an impressive score of 80/100! We awarded ‘Best Team Name’ to Handelsbanken with ‘The Peaky Bankers’ and the Wooden Spoon prize was awarded to ‘Spanner in the Works’ which was one of the teams from Cheltenham & Gloucester Autocentre.
The grand finale was our much-awaited raffle which had some top prizes including; luxury hampers, various tickets to family days out, a day at the races, ‘A Woman in Black’ performance and Prescott Hillclimb tickets.
Of course, the whole aim of the night was to raise much-needed funds for our Charity of the Year, Maggie’s Cheltenham. We were overjoyed as we managed to raise a very impressive £1,101.00!!
A massive thank you to all those who attended the night, donated prizes for our raffle and of course purchased raffle tickets. We hope everyone had a very enjoyable night all in aid of a very worthy local cause.
